AMERICAN IDOL @ OIAM PREDICTION

AMERICAN IDOL GROUP 3 RESULT

All my prediction about who will move to the next stage of American idol was correct. The only drawback was a slight undecided choice between Megan and Kris Allen, where Allen was selected together with Allison and Lambert. Since there will be a slot for wild card, I will not be surprised when she make it through also.

It just feel great when after finding out about your prediction and all of them get it through, it seems you were part of the American people selecting their best entertainers. I think I qualified myself as one of the judges but mind you, I do hear what the judges said about the contestants and make my own assessment.

Let’s see whether I can make a great and prediction for the last group 3 next week. Did your prediction of group 2 correct?

OIAM – 1ST CONTESTANT BOOTED OUT

My prediction of Ayu as one of the potential candidates to be booted out was correct but surprisingly 2 from previous reality show contestant nearly didn’t make it as they were at the bottom three. Pija and Amelia were previously from Akademi Fantasia and Mentor reality show.

The voting trend as can be derived from the results, shows that contestants from previous shows does not guaranteed them to proceed further. Recording artists like Tomok and Nine still have a following although Nine should be in the bottom three. Judging from his performance last night, he should be in the bottom 3 next week result.

The holder of immunity last week Esther was not at her best performance last night but she will make it through to the next round as fans of her will surely vote for her after not voting last week. This week Amelia get immunity and she will be safe for now and not be embarrassed to be booted early as she was at the bottom 3 last week.

I will not be making any prediction this week as the voting trend is so unpredictable this time around. A good performance from the contestants does not guarantee them a place to the next round.

AMERICAN IDOL - GROUP 2 REVIEW

Here are my 3 favourite that I think will move to the next round. I hope they will make it.

Allison Iraheta

When she was interviewed, I thought she would perform terribly due to her skill of speaking her mind out. But once she started singing, she really can sing with her song of ALONE by heart.

Adam Lambert

He sang SATISFACTION by The rolling stone. I like him for his range and performance. In term of personality, I think he is different from the rest of the participants. He will make it through.

Megan Corkrey

I select her due to her performance much better than the others. She sang PUT THE RECORD ON by Corrine.

Dark Horse – Kris Allen
There is a possibility that Kris Allen will make it also to the next round. Not really my favourite but received encouraging comments from 3 of the judges.

Let us see whether my selection is correct. So guys pick your favorites who will make it through the next stage.

LOOK BEFORE SIT ..... SHIT

During dry season or your house is at the country side, make sure to check your toilet bowl before you do your thing.

I think the snake need cooling down and the best place to cool itself was the toilet bowl where it could just dip its body and curl inside the toilet bowl.

Beware of such poisonous snake inside your toilet.

SELLING A DOG WITH SKIN DISEASE

Dog meat is said to be favoured for its flavour and supposed health benefits, including the belief that it warms the body during rainy season. I remembered, when a group of elders discussed about eating dog meat and usually they will select a date during rainy season.

When a date was set, by that time a dog was found, they will look for spices and of course alcoholic drinks. Usually they will use Chinese herbs and spices and the dog meat cooked dry. I did eat dog meat but only in small amount and usually I look for the small cutting meat just to please friends at that time.

I would like to share with you a humorous but pitiful story that involved between two friends. Youngsters in the village who have not found a job will have some problem with extra money and will not burden their parents of asking money from them all the time.

There was one time that these friends needed money desperately and at that time there was a popular restaurant who would buy dogs for their meat. There was a dog, which belongs to one of the friend, and they decided to sell it to the restaurant. The problem was that the dog has skin disease all over its body except for the head.

They caught the dog and put it inside a gunnysack and went to the restaurant to sell it. They discussed about the price and agreed the price of RM30.00. Before the restaurant owner paid the money, he needs to see the dog first.

Towkay : Kawan, mau tengok itu anjing dulu baru bayar.

Kawan : Ini anjing liar punya takut nanti terlapas, susah oh.

Towkay : Tidak peduli, mau tengok juga.

Kawan : Tengok sikit saja ar nanti terlepas, sia tidak gurantee oh.

Towkay : Okayla tengok sikit saja lah.

So they opened the gunnysack and just let the dog’s head pop out while the dog tried to get out. So when the towkay saw that the dog’s head was clean without any sign of skin disease he paid them the price. After they received the money they quickly run away afraid that the towkay opened the gunnysack and realized that he was cheated.

I was thinking what was the reaction of the restaurant owner when he saw the condition of the dog.

OCTUPLETS

BAMBOO CAGE (BUBU) – PUNISHING INCESTUOUS COUPLE

Anyone of you heard about an incestuous couple or relatives falling in love but was punished for their love affair? It happens and practiced before in every longhouse found in Sabah especially in the district of Kudat before Sabah gained independence.

I have been visiting the long house at KDCA for many times but in no time seen any big ‘Bubu’ at its building. In the olden days apart from catching fish, another usefulness of it was punishing incestuous couples. Anyone found guilty of the crime would be placed inside the ‘Bubu adat’ and thrown to the river or sea and eventually would be drowned. Any child born out of the relationship will also be placed inside the ‘Bubu Adat’ along with the parents.

It was a common practice before and every longhouse at that time had its own ‘Bubu Adat’. The practice stopped after Sabah gained independence.

What would it like be if the ‘Bubu Adat’ still being practiced now in this time of modernization? It would be a lot of debates amongst the people, non- government organization etc voicing their utmost disbelief of this kind of barbaric punishment. It would be kind of cool if this practice reintroduces again to scare potential couple of incestuous crime.
Next time you visited any longhouse, look for the big 'Bubu Adat' and ask the headman of the longhouse about their practice before independence.

HUMOR BUDAK SABAH

Cuba kamu dengar betul-betul apabila polis bercakap. Ada kamu dengar passport atau password?

Tahniah kepada budak-budak yang buat dubbing ini.

ONE IN A MILLION

Last night I watched the 12 finalist of the OIAM performing and I was amazed by the performance of Esther from Sabah who received very favourable comments from the judges. Apart from her amazing performance she will move to the next round without being booted out from the show as she received immunity which was introduce only this year. The judges will select the best performer and that performer will get immunity, meaning she doesn’t need votes from the audience to get into the next round.

The other contestant that did performed well must be Aweera, the young rockers. He was like feeling at home with his rock song. I think all fans of rock music will vote for him as well as ladies because he got looks to die for. I think the young contestants have a very hard time to convince the audience with their performance compared to the established artists who had participated in other reality show before. The only artist who performed below par was Nine.

The probability of who is voted out is between Ayu, Anith, Han or Nine as my prediction.

AMERICAN IDOL - FIRST TOP 3

My favourite Anoop Desai was not the automatic choice by the audience to move up to the 12 finalist of the American idol. When he performed, I know he was in deep trouble as his performance was not great as compared to his audition. Hopefully he will get one of the wildcard spot to move to the nest round. We will missed Tatiana Nicole as she didn’t make it also.

Danny Gokey as expected move up and judge’s favourite, Alexis Grace. This petite lady did well on her first performance. The surprise was rigger Michael Sarva who joins Danny and Alexius to the top 12 of the American Idol. Are there any surprises for the coming performance of the other group? Let’s wait and see.

RATE THE CONTESTANTS

The viewers’ rankings were similar to the actual results that were revealed Wednesday evening. However, viewers predicted that Anoop Desai should move on rather than Michael Sarver, with 35% of viewers voting for Desai and 24% voting for Sarver.Among the findings:
Respondents were asked to pick their top three favorite contestants from Tuesday night’s show that they thought should advance to the next round.

Danny Gokey - 50%Alexis Grace - 40%Anoop Desai – 35%Ricky Braddy – 25%Tatiana Nicole Del Toro – 25%Michael Sarver – 24%Jackie Tohn – 21%Casey Carlson – 20%Ann Marie Boskovich 19%Brent Keith – 17%Stephen Fowler – 15%Stevie Wright – 8%

SABAH RED TIDE PHENOMENON

The red tide in the west coast of Sabah has detected the occasional natural phenomenon where micro-organisms in the sea undergo a population explosion that sometimes imparts a brownish-red colour to the sea surface. The Sabah state health Department and Fisheries department had detected the presence of red tide in sample of Bivalve (Kerang) in Kuala Penyu, Papar, Pulau Gaya, Sepanggar including Kuala Menggatal and Tuaran. There is a high possibility that adjoining district will be affected in the future.

For us who likes to eat oysters, Mussels and cockles should refrain from eating it for the time being if you are living at those mentioned places. However, prawns, crabs and fishes are safe for consumption but the gills and guts of the fishes should be discarded and washed properly. In the meantime, let’s forget about eating Penang fried noodles, as cockles are the main ingredients in preparing for this dish.

Let us get updated regarding the red tide situation from the authority before we continue consuming affected shellfish in the future.

LADIES AFRAID OF BLOOD SUCKING LEECH

Leeches are commonly known as a kind of animals that suck blood, and there is fresh water, terrestrial and marine leeches. Scientifically it is categorized as annelids, which is segmented worm comprising the subclass Hirudinea. It is closely related to earthworms, and it is hermaphrodites that have both male and female reproductive organs.
The leech’s saliva anaesthetizes the wound area, dilates the blood vessels to increase blood flow and prevents the blood from clotting.

I am not writing about leeches with its medicinal value but just highlighting some funny experience with women who would jump by the mention of Leeches.

Long time ago when planting of paddy was still done manually, women usually does the planting after the men prepared the paddy field. The planting was done usually on ‘Gotong Royong’ (group of people) where planting takes turn whoever prepares their paddy field first.

There were ladies who will jump by the mention of that slimy sucking blood creatures and one of them is my sister. It was really awkward and funny to see my sister preparing herself before going to the paddy field. She will cover herself from toes to her midsection with stocking and applying detergent or soap to her leg and hands.

In those days, paddy field with a bit swampy seems the favourite of the leeches. People who is phobia with Leeches will know which paddy fields was safe for them to help out with the planting of the young paddy.

When you hear the shrieking, shouting and running as if somebody just died, the show has just began where one of the ladies found out that a leech was sticking at her leg. She will run hay way needing help to remove the leech from here leg. Usually the ladies will run for help to the person nearest to her and what happen when the other person also having problem with leeches. You will be laughing your gut out watching them running together. One was running to get away from the other until the leech fall by itself by the hard running and thumping of legs to get rid of the creatures.

I noticed also that people who is phobia with Leech tend to hit you with something during her ordeal if you are not fast enough to removed the leech from her body. Usually when the leech sucked the ladies, there was no point to ask her to continue planting paddy. That was her off day.

WHERE TO FIND BEST MEE TUARAN

As I was doing my work SURIAfm Dj Othoe played the song ‘NOMBO NOI KALABAU KU’ (Where is my Buffalo) with blues tempo and I swayed my body in tandem with the music. My colleague who used to tune to this FM frequency stopped tuning to the radio station for about a month. When asked why she stopped listening to the radio station she answered that she got boring the way the DJ was managing the show.

Every morning when she came to the office, she will tune to this private station and we called her without her knowledge ‘Othoe’. Since few days back she continue to listen to this private station.

Every time DJ Othoe on air, he never failed to mention Tuaran noodles or Mee Tuaran and this morning he mentioned about where to find the best Tuaran Noodles. He mentioned about the location of the restaurant as near the Tuaran Public Library but can’t recall the name of the restaurant of which he did mentioned. I ate Mee Tuaran but I haven’t eaten it at Tuaran though. My next visit to Tuaran would be looking for the best Tuaran noodle as mentioned by the DJ Othoe.

PESERTA SABAH KE FINAL - MYSTARZ LG

Semalam saya menonton reality show MyStarz Lg episode terakhir sebelum akhir pada minggu depan.

Apa pun good luck to him kerana masuk dalam final dan manatau pesembahannya pada akhir nanti malatup.

CRAVING FOR JAPANESE CUISINE

It has been two Sundays in a row that my appetite for foreign cuisine was granted and I must say that it was only a testing episode. In the afternoon we went to an open Japanese restaurant around the city of Kota Kinabalu.

As usual recommendation from the restaurant workers were sought about the good food of Japanese cuisine. There were much lunch set available apart from the many appetizing side dish. We ordered the Shake Shioyaki set as was recommended by the restaurant and a very nice Japanese rolls (with fish roe).

The marketing strategy of foreign restaurant in Kota Kinabalu was to take pictures of the many food available and let their blur customer pick their choices.

I really like the Sushi rolls, if not mistaken the orange colour tasted like fish roe.

The Shake Shioyaki set consists of small pieces pickle vegetables, a soup, rice, Vegetables salad and Salmon fish. Noticed the Coca-cola cup in the picture. Actually we didn't know that we were served with Japanese tea, so we ordered some drinks from the stall nearby.

Japanese food as compared to Korean food for this first round were much better. The result is 1 for Japanese food and 0 for Korean food. Looking for another round of foreign cuisines.

AMERICAN IDOL - MY REVIEW

I watched American Idol yesterday and was pissed off by so many intervals. In every 5 minutes broadcast of the program there was a 5 minutes break a.k.a advertisement. It was an hour program but I thought it was only less than thirty minutes only. I missed my early bath and meal.

Adakah American idol production peduli!!

I never made any reviews about entertainment but this time it’s exceptional due to its popularity. This reviews should be best commented by the likes of bloggers like MrManager, Dbos, Kadus, The Kadazan boyz, Noumad and all infotainment blogs. Anyway since I’ve watched it, I will comment on it.

The first one selected to the top 36 was one of my favourite that was Anoop Desai. I like him because he sang very well during the earlier rounds and he’s Asian. He should make it to the last round as a marketing strategy to get the votes from the Asian community. The blind man (forget the name) also make it through. This guy really can sing but not my favourite.

Next was Tatiana who squeals that makes Simon telling her to stop her annoying squeals. Paula gave her ring to match with her bracelet. She makes it also but guesses it must be interesting what she brings to the live show …. Squeal!!

Then came the turn of two huge contestant, a rigger and a welder who was pitted together to fight for one slot. Micheal and Matt tried to outdo each other with their last effort singing a song each. Both were eventually selected to the next round.

Also making it to the next round was Nathaniel Marshall, very girlish but can sing very well too. Simon asked him what was he’s wearing and he answered he is what he is, the real Nathaniel. He lived with so many members of his family because the mother is in prison for some drug problem.

Another contestant making it next round was comedian Norman Gentle. I like this guy, which will make the program more interesting with his antic and hope he makes it to the next round. All contestants selected to the next round were all good singers and it would be a very difficult task awaiting the judges if all perform very well at the next round. So guys pick your choices as I have already few in mind as my favourites.

Sampai ofis kena Air-con tambah sejuk walaupun pakai sweater.

Me : Kenapa bagi saya ubat batuk? Bukan saya batuk pun.

Me : Yalah (Mau lawan pula dengan Doctor …. Heheh)

Geng : Dimana kau?

Me : Sorry, Sia pergi Klinik rasa sakit. Ingat mau call kau nanti lepas sia makan.

Geng : Okla sia pun mau pergi makan sudah ni. Petang ini kau pergi Jogging Kah?

Me : Tidak kali ini .. sakit sia ini.

Geng : Bah okla.

Saya balik ofis just past 12.00 pm. Lepas posting nanti mau tidur.

CATCHING BIAWAK WITH BARE HAND

I was reading through the newspaper this morning when I saw a picture of concrete crocodile in Sipitang and it reminded me of a case where a friend catch a Komodo (Biawak) in a stream.

My friend is a very adventurous person and he likes the entire extreme thing. In contrast, I am the good boy and never liked all those adventurous and extremely dangerous outing. It was during a time when we were heading home from town when we saw a Komodo run from the road and disappeared under some debris in the stream.

Me : Kau berani kah mau tangkap itu biawak, nanti dia gigit kau.

Friend : Kalau dalam air mana ia boleh gigit nanti lemas dia bila buka mulut.

My friend removed his shoes and slowly walks inside the knee-deep stream and let his hands wander amongst the debris where the Komodo disappeared. I saw his left hand stopped moving as if gripping something, his right hand slowly moved further as if aiming for something and in a split second he lifted the Komodo up. I could see the Komodo was thrashing and moving his body to escape from the grip of my friend. My friend was holding the Komodo by its neck and spine which unable it to bite.

It was not really a big reptile but seeing my friend holding and walking out from the stream towards me made me nervous. When he reached the road he rose up the reptile and dropped it hard on the road. Only one dropped to the hard surfaced of the road disable the reptile.

It was the courageous effort by my friend that made me respect him about what he had done and I heard he had lifted a crocodile also from a stream. I couldn’t remember what we did to the Komodo but most probably ended in a cooking pot.

Not everyone dare to catch a reptile, as what my friend did and it would not be encouraged to try that courageous effort. By the way my friend is called Jackson.

JALAN JALAN - LAST PART

My last journey was to the district of Sipitang and Sindumin, where we stopped at Sipitang for a short rest and lunch. As usual we had our lunch at the restaurant just a few feet from the shore. Imagine if there’s a huge wave (tsunami) and you are having meals at the restaurant and before you knew what hit you, you will probably swept away by the waves.

It would be nice if something were done to the shore in front of the restaurant like developing it as public promenade or esplanade as what we have in the city of Kota Kinabalu or the Sidek Esplanade Kudat. The people staying around the town would have a pleasant evening having dinner with families with a beautiful sunset and a very soothing breeze from the sea.

We reached Sindumin, the district bordering Lawas Sarawak, and passed through Emigration department security post to reach our destination, which is on Sabah soil, which was unique in the sense that the road leading to it passed through Sarawak soil.

The road leading to our destination which is on the Sarawak side and the side which I took the picture was on the Sabah side. Very unique indeed don't you think?

After completing our work, we departed Sindumin as nothing was available like durian. I remembered last time we visited Sindumin there was so many durian and we went to the village folks to buy their durians. It would be nice visiting this part of Sabah during the fruit season. Looking forward to another visit. End of the journey of ….. my JALAN JALAN.

EATING OUT - GOING KOREAN

I had planned my weekend before hand but only looking for a friend who is crazy enough like me to try a foreign cuisine. I called a friend and fortunately was available and we went to Likas Square for a Korean cuisine. I was always tempted to try Korean dishes whenever we had lunch at Graceville, Sembulan but haven't ordered it.

When we reached Likas square and entered the Korean restaurant, the restaurant assistants bow to us as a sign of Korean greeting. I bow too as a respect to their culture (although the assistants were local).

They were serving healthy foods as what was printed on the paper envelope. What was inside the envelope were a silver spoon and chopstick.

Earlier, I did not looked around the restaurant as I was busy looking at the menu as we don't know what to order. Only after lunch did I looked around and noticed unrecognised pictures hanging on the restaurant's wall.

Me : Ingat arah Korean sembayang, mungkin ada maksud bah tu kan.

There are few of the pictures but I just took the picture nearer to our table.

We called the waitress to tell us which dishes are popular and she recommended as to try the lunch set which have few dishes. I asked for pork ribs set and my friend tried Kimchi Stew set and another side dish which was Pan fried fish.

A very elaborate menu with pictures but you need somebody to recommend what dish to order. Good to the eyes but very different to the taste.

The Kimchi Stew set consists of mix vegetable soup, radish, black beans and chilli. The soup tasted like tom yam and the others just very foreign taste. Thankfully I didn't asked for this set.

My lunch set called pork Ribs set which consists of Pork ribs, Radish (Lobak), black beans and julienne chilli. The Chilli and black beans were sweetend and there was no taste of hot chilli.

I was trying to taste the texture of fish in this Pan fried fish but I couldn't. I could not describe how the taste like.

Me : Lain rasa ini, macam ada gam bila dimakan. Kau rasa sedap kah?

Friend : Betullah lain dia punya rasa, memang tidak sedap.

The radish was crunchy but the problem with me was to adjust to its taste. I don't like the taste of the marinate or gravvy. I didn't finished it.

Although I didn't like much of the dish we ordered but the ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant especially the cleanliness was superb. I like the small sets of food served on a very small bowls and plates. It was not the last of my craving of Korean food as I had only tasted a small fraction Korean dish. My next outing would be trying Japanese food.

JALAN JALAN 3

On our way to Beaufort we stop at Sub District of Membakut for drinks as my friend have not taken his breakfast. We depart Kota Kinabalu very early in the morning. I was surprised to see picture of Jesselton town way back in the year 1900 hanging on the wall of the restaurant.

The last time I visited Membakut was a long time ago and was relieved to see rows of new shop. After breakfast we looked for the petrol station to fill up our petrol and there was the old wooden building still with its owner doing business as usual. I read about an article about this building in the newspaper and it would not be known when would it be demolished for other development in the district.

We reached Beaufort town at lunchtime after few stops and we looked for a restaurant, a good one as told by my friend. We ordered KOE ROU or Yam with Pork, fish and vegetable.

The Koe Rou was very delicious to my taste as it had a very mild but tasteful and the gravy was quite thin as compared to the Koe Rou that I usually bought from a stall at Bukit Padang. The Koe Rou at Bukit Padang has a strong flavor and a bit dry although you can pour the take away gravy. To those who do not like strong smell of Koe Rou can visit Beaufort to try this dish. Sorry, I forget the name of the restaurant.

Below Pic Koe Rou of Bukit Padang.

This was a simple sweet and sour fish dish but imagine how three hungry person share this little amount of fish. The plate was really big though.

I will post the last part of my journey and will be looking foward to another trip to other district.
